A Letter From the Founder

I Was Spending $800/Month on AI. So I Built Something Better.

The real story behind StudioClaw — and why unlimited AI isn't too good to be true.

Last January, I opened my Anthropic dashboard and stared at the number: $847.23.

That was one month of using Claude the way I actually wanted to — not the way the pricing page wanted me to. I was building an AI assistant that could manage my email, monitor my servers, post on social media, analyze data, and handle dozens of other tasks throughout the day. The kind of assistant that actually replaces busywork instead of just answering questions.

The problem wasn't Claude. Claude was incredible. The problem was the meter running in the background, turning every conversation into a transaction. Every message had a price tag. Every creative tangent felt like waste.

I started rationing my AI. Shortening prompts. Avoiding follow-ups. Skipping tasks that "weren't worth the tokens." I'd built an amazing assistant — and then handicapped it to save money.

That's when I realized: the pricing model is the product's biggest enemy.

If you've ever hesitated before hitting "send" because you're watching your usage tick up — you know exactly what I mean. The most powerful AI models in the world, deliberately under-used because of pricing anxiety. It's like buying a Ferrari and only driving it to the mailbox.

The Math That Changed Everything

I started crunching numbers. Not the theoretical "API pricing per million tokens" numbers — the real numbers. What does it actually cost to let one person use Claude, truly unlimited, all day, every day?

My Actual Monthly AI Spend (January 2025)

Claude API (Opus-level model) $847.23
VPS hosting (DigitalOcean) $48.00
Monitoring & backups $15.00
My time maintaining it (~8 hrs) Priceless
Total $910+/month

Nine hundred dollars. For one user. And I was holding back.

Then I asked a different question: what if I could spread the infrastructure costs across many users, negotiate bulk API pricing, and use smart caching to reduce redundant calls? What would the per-user economics actually look like?

The answer surprised me. With the right architecture — isolated containers, prompt caching, intelligent model routing, and Anthropic's volume pricing — the math works at $79/month. Not for a crippled version. For the real thing. Unlimited.

How We Built It

January 2025
Started building my own AI assistant on OpenClaw. Hit $800+ in API bills. Realized this problem isn't unique to me.
Summer 2025
Built the first version of the hosting platform. Isolated Docker containers per user. Every customer gets their own agent — not a shared chatbot.
Fall 2025
Negotiated bulk API pricing. Built caching layers that cut token usage 30-40% without users noticing. The unit economics started working.
February 2026
Launched StudioClaw publicly. First paying customer within 48 hours. 20+ customers in the first month.
Today
Running dozens of AI agents 24/7. No token caps. No surprise bills. Just people using AI the way it should be used.

"Unlimited" — But Actually

I know what you're thinking. Every SaaS says "unlimited" and means "until we decide you're using too much." That's not what's happening here.

When I say unlimited, I mean: send 10 messages or 10,000 — same price. No throttling. No degraded model after message 50. No "fair use" asterisks in 8pt font.

How? The same way gyms charge $30/month for equipment worth hundreds of thousands of dollars: not everyone maxes out every day. The power users are subsidized by the moderate users, and the moderate users get peace of mind knowing they'll never hit a wall.

$0 Per-token charges

The behavioral change is the real product. When there's no meter running, people stop self-censoring. They ask the weird follow-up question. They let the agent run a 200-message research session at 2 AM. They connect their email and let it triage their inbox every morning. They actually use it.

The moment you stop counting tokens is the moment AI becomes genuinely useful. Not as a search engine. As a partner.

What You Actually Get

StudioClaw isn't a chatbot. Every customer gets a dedicated, isolated AI agent running in its own container with:

Your own agent identity — name it, give it a personality, it remembers you across sessions.
30+ built-in skills — email, calendar, GitHub, smart home, web scraping, file analysis, coding, and more.
Multi-channel access — Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, webchat, or all of them at once.
SSH access — yes, you can SSH into your container. It's your machine.
Autonomous operation — set up cron jobs, overnight tasks, proactive monitoring. It works while you sleep.
Full privacy — your data lives in your container. We can't see your conversations.

This isn't a wrapper around ChatGPT. This is the full infrastructure stack — servers, security, updates, model access, skill ecosystem — handled for you.

The Numbers (Real Ones)

I believe in transparency. Here's where we actually stand:

~22
Paying customers
$1,500
Monthly recurring revenue
30+
Containers running 24/7
1 month
Since public launch

We're early. We're small. We're growing.

I'm not going to pretend we're some VC-backed unicorn. StudioClaw is bootstrapped. Every feature was built because a customer needed it. Every dollar of revenue goes back into making the platform better. And because we're not chasing vanity metrics or burning investor money on growth hacks, we can focus on the thing that actually matters: making every customer's experience incredible.

Who This Is For

StudioClaw isn't for everyone. If you send 5 messages a day to ChatGPT, the free tier is probably fine. If you're a large enterprise with compliance teams, you need something different.

StudioClaw is for the people in between — the ones who would use AI for everything if it weren't for the pricing. Founders who need a technical co-pilot. Developers who want code review at 2 AM. Creators who need a research assistant that never sleeps. Small teams that want Claude-level intelligence without per-seat pricing.

If you've ever thought "I wish I could just use this thing without worrying about the bill" — that's exactly why we exist.

What's Next

We're building in public. Here's what's coming:

Multi-agent workspaces — run multiple specialized agents under one plan.
Marketplace — community-built skills you can install in one click.
Team plans — shared agents with role-based access.
Mac Mini tier — your own dedicated machine, not just a container.
Mobile app — native iOS and Android access to your agent.

But honestly? The best features are the ones our customers ask for. If you join, you're not just buying a product — you're shaping what it becomes.

A year ago I was spending $800/month on AI and holding back. Today I pay a flat rate, use my agent for everything, and never think about tokens.

That's what I want for you too.

If any of this resonated — come try it. No credit card required. 7 days free. And if it's not for you, no hard feelings. But if it is?

You'll wonder how you ever worked without it.
